Voter Outreach (AKA Canvassing)
Your vote counts in every election. Often voters leave the down ballot aka local offices like water districts, school boards and city councils blank. They are busy with their lives and generally don’t know much about the local candidates and the local issues. So they opt not to vote or vote based on the large political signs they see while driving. And yet, votes on local issues made by school boards and city councils impact their lives much quicker than votes at the county, state or federal level. A city council can introduce an item at the first meeting of the month. At the second meeting, the city council can vote to adopt that item. Within 30-60 days that item can then be an official new policy, ordinance or contract that could make a difference in their lives.

Get Involved
ProtectHB knows the value of informing voters about local candidates. Candidates use signs, mailers and text messages to reach voters. ProtectHB has learned that the door to door and neighbor to neighbor conversations are one of the most effective ways to reach voters. This is most commonly referred to as canvassing voters or knocking on doors.
By the Numbers
ProtectHB canvassed over 14,000 homes for the June 2025 Special Election for Measures A and B. To reach that many households, we used an app called PDI that can be used on either an android or iPhone. We held training on how to use the app and encouraged volunteers to find a partner. We let them choose an area in Huntington Beach that was familiar to them. Each volunteer was given a section of 45-50 homes in areas of Huntington Beach that typically had high voter turnout. That area was called a “turf.” We had materials to leave with voters. The app had a script to follow and identified the name(s) of the voters at each address. We know that our canvassing efforts were successful, as we had a large voter turnout for a Special Election.

Get Involved
For the upcoming November 2026 General Election, we will once again be canvassing voters. We plan to look at the data for voters in both the June 2025 Special Election and the June 2026 Primary. We will create “turfs” based on the areas of high voter turnout. We will be launching our canvassing efforts in mid August 2026. We will use our Sign Up Genius app to recruit volunteers.

Stay Informed
Check our social media, our weekly newsletter and our website for details in mid July 2026. We will need at least 100 volunteers who are willing to knock on doors and help bring balance back to the Huntington Beach City Council. We will need to elect school board members as well that are not MAGA. We can do it with your help.
