ProtectHB’s 2026 Election Endorsements
ProtectHB proudly announced its endorsement of four candidates for Huntington Beach City Council–Taryn Palumbo, Erin Spivey, Ben Davis, and Brenda Glim. We also endorse Chris Kluwe for State Assembly and Chris Duncan for State Senate. These local leaders are committed to restoring transparency, protecting public institutions, and putting residents ahead of political agendas.
“At a time when Huntington Beach residents are demanding accountability and responsible leadership, these candidates stand out as principled, community-focused leaders,” said Cathey Ryder, co-chair and co-founder of ProtectHB. “They understand what’s at stake–and they are prepared to act in the best interests of our city, not special interests or ideological agendas.”
Candidates submitted responses to comprehensive questionnaires and were interviewed by HB residents. After this process, it was clear these candidates will represent us well.
HB City Council
Meet Taryn Palumbo, lawyer, small business owner, and parent.

“Huntington Beach needs leadership focused on the everyday, local issues that matter most. I’m running for City Council because I believe our community deserves leaders who put families, neighborhoods, and local businesses first.”
Meet Erin Spivey, activist, parent, and former HBPL librarian.

Known to many residents simply as “Erin the Librarian,” Erin Spivey is running for City Council to restore trust in local government, protect community institutions, and refocus City Hall on solving real problems.
Meet Ben Davis, biochemist, lawyer, and advocate.

“Instead of civic engagement, we get voting restrictions. Instead of filling potholes, our city council files frivolous lawsuits. I am running for City Council because we deserve a City Hall focused on residents’ well-being, delivering core services, and listening respectfully to everyone.”
Meet Brenda Glim, homeowner, taxpayer, and grandmother.

“For too long, this City Council has created chaos instead of solving real problems,” said Glim. “I’m running because Huntington Beach deserves steady leadership that listens to residents and focuses on making our city safe, affordable, and welcoming for everyone.”
State Senate
Meet Chris Duncan, business owner, mayor, watchdog.

Chris Duncan is a San Clemente City Councilmember and former federal prosecutor in the Department of Homeland Security. A father of three, Chris is committed to putting the middle class first, lowering costs for working families, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe and thriving community.
State Assembly
Meet Chris Kluwe, former NFL player, coach, and advocate.

Chris is fed up with the power that corporate special interests have in Sacramento and with politicians who put their own agendas ahead of the people. He’s running for State Assembly to bring his strong voice to the legislature and stand up for the working people and middle-class families that are being left behind.
